How to choose the right online Gift Card

The rise of mobile gifting has made giving a great gift easier than ever, but what’s the difference between an e-gift, a mobile gift card and a digital gift card?

E-Gift or E-Gift Card?

An e-gift (or e-gift card) is a code or barcode that can be purchased for and redeemed in a single store. E-gifts can be purchased online, sent via email then presented in-store or online to buy goods. Because the e-gift is simply a code, it can be used by anyone who has access to that code; this means that e-gifts are not as secure as digital gift cards (which are tied to a recipient’s account).

Mobile Gift Card?

A mobile gift card is similar to an e-gift, with some added flexibility and security. Mobile gift cards are still only available to purchase for use in a single store (e.g. a Debenhams mobile gift card), however in this case the code is purchased, sent and stored using a secure platform/app. The app can be used to store and keep track of your mobile gift cards.

Digital Gift Card?

Digital gift cards (like the One4all Digital Gift Card) offer the highest level of security, personalisation and flexibility of any online gift card. They work just like traditional One4all Gift Cards, with no plastic necessary. Digital gift cards can be bought, customised and sent online using a secure website, then spent in-store or online with thousands of different outlets. One4all Digital Gift Cards can be customised with a pre-made design or your own image, and can even include a video message. Find out more.

Buying Digital One4all

Are there any hidden charges?

No. Buying a Digital Gift Card costs no more than the value you put on the card. Similarly,  sending a customised card to a recipient is also free of charge.

Recipients have no charges applied to their card for the first 12 months. If the card is not spent within 12 months a small monthly charge is applied to the card balance.

Recipients will be notified of these charges before they come into effect.

Why do I need an account?

Your account is required to ensure cards cannot become lost, ensuring that we can always recover your account for you.

Why does the person I send the card to need an account?

All gift cards have to be associated to an account to ensure that they cannot be lost.

Is the Digital Gift Card secure?

The One4all Digital Gift Card is incredibly secure. The reason for both the purchaser and recipient is to increase the security and ensure the identity of those using the product to eliminate potential for fraud.

I got an error message when checking out.

If you have tried to make a payment and received an error or decline message please see the table below for the list of reasons this might occur.

A processor decline indicates that your bank has refused the transaction request. Sometimes you can tell why it was declined by reading the response code, but only your bank can confirm the specific reason.

The most common reasons for declines are:

  • Incorrect credit card number or expiration date
  • Insufficient funds
  • The bank declined based on location
  • The bank's fraud rules blocked the transaction
  • Using autofill or scan card option when entering in payment details – retry and manually type in card details

Error Message

Do Not Honor or Processor Declined

Your bank is unwilling to accept the transaction. You will need to contact their bank for more details regarding this generic decline.

Please call your bank and ask them to allow the transaction and then try again

Insufficient Funds

The account did not have sufficient funds to cover the transaction amount at the time of the transaction – subsequent attempts at a later date may be successful.

Please ensure you have sufficient funds or credit available and retry the transaction

Declined CVV

We have not received a verification from your bank that the CVV entered was correct, or the CVV entered was deemed incorrect

Check the CVV entered is correct, if it is then it maybe a case that your card issuer does not provide CVV verification, some prepaid cards, Revolut cards and international cards may not provide this level of verification and security. Unfortunately this means we are unable to accept the payment

Post Code Error

Post codes or Eircodes can only be a maximum of 9 characters long and can not contain any special characters, commas or / etc

Your Eircode can be blank, Post codes are required. Please ensure you do not have more than 9 characters and do not include any of the disallowed characters.

Is there a minimum/maximum amount that I can buy a One4all Gift Card for?

The One4all Gift Card can be purchased in €1 denominations for any amount from €15 up to a maximum of €500.

Using Digital One4all

If I convert my Digital to Physical will it have the same design?

No, unfortunately the images used in the message and on the card are digital-only and designed to make the gift more personal. Images and messages will not appear on physical gift cards (if the balance is transferred) or in spending apps.

Where and when can I use my Card ?

Once claimed, your One4all Digital Gift Card is available to spend immediately.  You can spend your card online with any  retailers that typically accept One4all Gift Cards online. You can also use the Digital Gift Card with any of our retailers in store, as long as they accept NFC/contactless payments.

How do I use my card online?

Once you login to your account you can view all cards that are available to spend in the “Spend” section of your account. Simply select the ‘Spend Online’ option to view your card details, including the full 16 digit card number, expiry date and CVV2 number.

These details can be used with any of our retailers that typically accept One4all Gift Cards online. When spending, enter the details of your card as though you were using a credit/debit card. Please note that the value of the purchase can not be greater than the value of the card, as most websites do not accept multiple payment methods.

Which stores accept the One4all Gift Card?

Hundreds of stores accept the One4all Gift Card. You can view the full retailer list here.

How do I spend the One4all Gift Card online?

In a nutshell: use it like you would a Visa Debit card. If you need more help spending online, full instructions are available here. Make sure to check the Spend Online page to make sure your chosen retailer accepts the One4all Gift Card online, as not all retailers can do so.

I want to buy something worth more than the value of the card.

In-store: simply tell the cashier how much is on your One4all Gift Card and they will swipe for this amount, then you can pay the rest via cash or card.
Online: unfortunately this is not currently possible, as most websites do not accept multiple payment methods.

Can I ‘top up’ or add extra funds to my One4all Gift Card?

Unfortunately it is not currently possible to top your card with additional funds, as the One4all Gift Card is a single-load card.

The retailer wasn’t sure how to process my One4all Gift Card.

All retailers should be fully knowledgeable about how to process the One4all Gift Card, however if they’re not sure, simply tell them to swipe the card like a typical Visa debit card (i.e. back in the days before Chip & PIN). Make sure you know your card’s balance, as the retailer won’t be able to check this for you.

My card didn’t work when I tried to spend it in-store.

There could be several reasons why this happened. Please check:

- That you know your balance, and it is more than or equal to the amount you’re trying to spend.
- The One4all Gift Card hasn’t expired (check the Valid Thru date on the front of the card).
- The retailer’s card terminal isn't working correctly.

How long is my One4all Gift Card valid for?

One4all Gift Cards can be spent free of charges for 12 months following the purchase date (i.e. when the card was bought from a Post Office or online). After this time a monthly charge of €1.45 will be deducted from funds remaining on the card, until the card balance reaches zero.

Do I have to use it all in the same shop or can I use it in different retailers?

You can spend your One4all Gift Card in as many shops as you like.

I tried spending my One4all Gift Card online and it didn’t work?

Only selected stores accept the One4all Gift Card online. Additionally, One4all Gift Cards must be used as a prepaid Visa debit card with these retailers, rather than as a ‘store gift card’. The full list of online retailers, plus instructions on how to spend your card with them, is available here.

Can I combine multiple One4all Gift Cards?

In-store: you can use multiple One4all Gift Cards towards a single purchase.
Online: unfortunately it’s not possible to use multiple One4all Gift Cards when spending online, as most websites don’t accept multiple payment methods. However, you can contact our customer services team to arrange for your cards to be combined (please note this will require you to send us your cards and pay a small fee).
